Automated tools are able to adapt by themselves to the required job. As soon as a spindle drive is equipped with a unit for regulating the relative position, an automated tool can be used for the following functions:
- Rotation
- Placing and fixing in a certain position with zero backlash
- Clamping and releasing (including gripping)
One single unit can thus be used as insert for fixed tools as well as for live tools - and it is able to clamp and release the tools by itself. This becomes possible due to a special design:
If used as insert for fixed tools, the spindle drive is only effective on the integrated clamping mechanism. By regulating the spindle drive, it is possible to clamp and release as the need may be - CNC-controlled.
In this way, automated tools will be an important contribution to wide-range automation concepts, with highly flexible production units as a result. |
